Actives Save Lives
This past Saturday, the Actives and young Alumni gathered at the house to share in some burgers and beverages in celebration of the first fine week of weather this year. With one day of porch chilling in the books, the Boys had a hankering for a darty. The forecast however shifted from a brisk but sunny 54 degrees to a cloudy and rainy high of 46.
This would not stop these Noblemen from doing what they love. A Nobleman’s word is his bond, and damn it, Saturdays are Sig Tau days. By noon the rain had still held off and the grill was hot, firing Market Basket’s best, government bought, hamburgers to every active’s hungry mouth.
It was around 1:30pm when Jake Nolan noticed what looked like a Lowell resident having an episode in a neighbor’s driveway across the street. After calling other brothers over to investigate, and being met with no response from the man now laying in the driveway, the Actives called the authorities.
Resident of A, House Grill Master, and Narcan trained Raymond “Reggie” Duffy ran into the house with Drew Prindle (also Narcan trained) to grab his school provided Narcan. Chase Ayers, following advice from the 911 operator, instructed Brother Reggie to hold off from administering the Narcan unless the man stopped breathing. Reggie told Chase he already knew that, because he “was training for this shit”. Chase did not relay this information back to the 911 operator.
Within 2 minutes of the call, first responders arrived at the scene, and took the man away in an ambulance. Ray, Chase, and Joe McDonagh stayed on scene to talk with the first responders. First responders were impressed that they “actually had Narcan”. Brother Reggie fielded hardball questions by a “baddie Lowell PD officer” such as “This guy a friend of yours?”, “Where did he come from?”, and “How old are you guys?”, like a total champ.
Brother Reggie hopes that other Actives take part in the school’s next Narcan training, and that officer swings by again to bust someone’s rowdy function in the neighborhood so he can compliment her response time again. These Actives will continue to advocate for Narcan training. Well done brothers!
